Our Mission and Our Impact

At Linde, we live our mission of making our world more productive.

In 2022 we enabled our customers to avoid about 90 million metric tons of CO2 equivalents (CO2e). We also work safely to continuously improve our own energy efficiency and avoided 1 million metric tons of CO2e.[1]

As we improve, we are investing in the communities where we live and work. We hire locally and source most of our products and services in the countries in which they are used. Additionally, we actively support our local communities through employee engagement and volunteerism as well as charitable contributions.

The results we have achieved in making our world more productive have earned recognition by premier sustainability investment indexes (ESG Indexes) and rankings, including the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices’ World Index.

1 How we calculated our numbers:

Results are based on actual 2022 reported values for Linde plc. For carbon footprint reduction, we report fossil fuel-based energy use (principally electricity in air separation units and natural gas for hydrogen production plants) that was converted into COâ‚‚ equivalents (CO2e). For measuring customer greenhouse gas emissions benefits, we included CO2e savings enabled from a subset of company applications when used in our customers’ products or production processes, compared to our operational Scope 1 and 2 CO2e emissions. For leadership recognition, Linde is listed on major investment indexes such as the World Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), Solactive Europe Corporate Social Responsibility Index (formerly Ethibel Sustainability Index Excellence Europe), FTSE4Good Index Series and STOXX. Linde was recognized by Bloomberg as a member of the 2023 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI), by the Ethisphere Institute as one of the 2023 World’s Most Ethical Companies, and by S&P Global in The Sustainability Yearbook (2023).
