MOX-Linde wins national safety awards

Kuala Lumpur, September 30 – MOX-Linde Gases, a member of world leading industrial gases company, The Linde Group, was recently recognised for their achievements in practicing exemplary health and safety practices, receiving three Gold Awards in the recent Malaysian Society of Occupational Safety and Health (MSOSH) Safety Awards 2007 (Manufacturing category).

“These awards strongly reflect the inherent culture at MOX-Linde, where safety is not only one of our key guiding principles, but also 100% of our behavior, 100% of our time,” said SY Wong, Linde’s country head for Malaysia.

Wong explained, “To us, making safety a top priority is simply about valuing human life, and our SHEQ Policy (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality), which commits to not harming people nor the environment, really guides our pursuit to help one and other, including our customers, to practice safe behavior on an everyday basis”.

The three Gold Awards were awarded to MOX-Linde’s operations in Pasir Gudang, Johor, a first-time entrant, as well as the Hicom, Shah Alam and Petaling Jaya sites, both of whom also won Gold awards in the 2006, clearly reflecting the company’s strong long-term commitment and dedication to achieving excellence in safety, health and environmental standards.

Safety performance at the three MOX-Linde sites has been outstanding, as no Lost Time Injury (LTI) or worksite fatality was recorded for the assessment period of two years.

In the past MOX-Linde has won numerous awards for safety, health and environmental best practices. These include the Chemical Industries Council of Malaysia (CICM) Responsible Care Awards in 2007, National Occupational Safety and Health Excellence Awards (2007) and two MSOSH Occupational Safety and Health Gold Awards in 2006.

Raising the bar for Safety across The Linde Group in Asia
At the regional level, three Linde sites in South East Asia also marked new safety milestones as they broke their own records for work without a LTI.

Earlier this year, the Pulogadung site in Indonesia scored Asia’s first when it received the prestigious Site Safety Award for reaching 3,211,027 hours without any LTI, becoming one of only four sites in The Linde Group to be so recognised. The other sites are in Germany (one) and Canada (two).

The team at Linde Gas Singapore Pte Ltd recently passed two million man-hours without a LTI while Thai Industrial Gases’ Talan air separation plant had chalked up 20 years without LTI.

The MSOSH OSH annual safety and health performance awards are intended to give credit and recognition to all member organizations which achieved good safety and health records and have shown improvement in occupational safety and health process through sound safety and health management systems.
