Kate Jackson
What is your name? In which area and for how long have you been working for Linde/BOC?
My name is Kate Jackson and I work for BOC at Gist as a Shift Manager. I joined in September 2003 as a Management Trainee and currently work in Bedford, UK, where we manage warehousing for the retailer Woolworths.
What are your main job responsibilities?
I first started in Bedford when we opened the site and I played an active role in recruiting and training the workforce. Since then I have moved into operations where I am a night shift manager. My main responsibilities are to ensure the smooth running of different departments, to plan the shift and to organise staffing.
What is the most exciting thing about your role?
I really enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where every day is different and where there is lots of variety. I also have the opportunity to meet a wide cross-section of interesting people, including customers and colleagues.
Why did you decide to join Linde/BOC?
After studying logistics at University I wanted to enter a profession that would give me the chance to implement my skills, offer personal development and good career advancement prospects. BOC provided all these features and, with a well structured graduate training scheme, I was sure this was the company I wanted to join.
What do you like about Linde/BOC?
I like the fact that we have a community spirit, even though this is a global organisation. As a company we are committed to safety, which is very important to me. My work environment also welcomes new ideas and empowers people to be proactive.
Where do you see your career going?
After just over a year I am looking to step up to a position as Operations Manager, which will allow me to further expand the skills I have gained since joining the company. I would also like to work abroad and hopefully, with our developing business, I will find the opportunity to do so in the future. |
