Connell Zhang
What is your name? In which area and for how long have you been working for Linde/BOC?
I’m Connell Zhang and I work in Shanghai, China. I joined BOC in the US in 2001 and returned to my homeland to join BOC China in 2003. I am Senior Director Tonnage Business Development in China.
What are your main job responsibilities?
I lead the efforts to drive the growth of our tonnage business through taking in big-scale supply schemes in China. In the last two years we have secured the $100 million BOC-MaSteel deal, the $80 million BOC-SPC deal, and the $100 million Tisco Expansion deal. We are currently developing several mega-scale chemical and metals projects in China.
What is the most exciting thing about your role?
The “impact”: I can see how our customers, partners and local communities have been and will continue to be positively impacted by our success. Internally, I know that my job and my team’s performance are both important to the strategic growth of the whole company.
Why did you decide to join Linde/BOC?
I have always aspired to be a “global” person and BOC was a truly global company. I believe the combination of Linde and BOC will simply enhance that strength.
What do you like about Linde/BOC?
The people. I am always amazed by the way in which my team, my peers and my managers are focused on supporting me and helping each other.
Where do you see your career going?
Functionally, I would like to either take a general management role or continue in business development. Geographically, I see myself probably outside of China since I long for more global exposure. My career goal is to become a global manager accountable for a sizable business. |
