Real World

Hear about Life @ Linde from our employees, in their own words.

frisby Adam Jennings-Frisby

What is your name? In which area and for how long have you been working for Linde/BOC?

My name is Adam Jennings-Frisby and I am currently Area General Manager-ISP South, based in Crawley, UK. I joined BOC in 1991 after completing my Engineering degree and working for a year for the telecommunications company SEL, based in Stuttgart, Germany.

What are your main job responsibilities?

My main objective is to drive the highest standards of safety, quality and customer service. The South Area is made up of nearly 300 operational staff including drivers, cylinder fillers, and sales teams all pulling together to generate more than £30 million profit, from a turnover of around £60 million. We operate two large cylinder filling facilities, in Crawley and Bristol, with distribution depots across the South of the UK, including the Channel Islands. We also run a network of 110 agents and 16 stores in the South who provide a high level of presence across the region. People are my main asset and I focus considerable time and effort in working to maximise their development and effectiveness.

What is the most exciting thing about your role?

The significant diversity that each day brings. Activities range from local customer, technical and people issues through to involvement in corporate activities including a focus on working groups to drive improvement in everything we do. This all provides me with challenge, satisfaction and considerable personal development opportunity.

Why did you decide to join Linde/BOC?

I joined BOC after completing my Engineering degree, since it promised a diverse career with global opportunities – which I have found to be true during my 15-year career.

What do you like about Linde/BOC?

BOC rewards successful staff with opportunities to stretch their boundaries and provides access to highly-effective networks such as the “Best Operating Practice” and “Best Commercial Practice” teams. This means that my colleagues and I all have access to a superb pool of experience and informal advice, whatever the situation. This network of colleagues and friends I have built over the years is one of my greatest assets in getting things done for BOC.

Where do you see your career going?

My career history so far has taken me from pure engineering, through plant operations, global BOP, customer service and on to significant business management. This has provided me with the knowledge and experience to face the diverse challenges of an ever-changing global organisation. I could operate from anywhere in the world and would love to build on my business leadership experience, perhaps in a country Director role.
