Local engagement

Social commitment around the world

Within the framework of a public-private partnership, we and two other companies based in the Rhine/Main region have joined the federal state of Hesse in supporting exceptionally talented and promising students at the Schloss Hansenberg boarding school in Rheingau. Linde has been subsidizing the school since early 2004.

In the course of five years, a total of 1.25 million EUR will be invested in an innovative teaching approach that moves beyond outmoded structures to take an active role in reshaping the German educational system. At Schloss Hansenberg, the students are optimally prepared for the demands of their future careers through a close meshing of theory and practice. In addition to providing financial help, Linde offers the students internships in its foreign subsidiaries.

BOC’s Corporate Social Investment

BOC is committed to all the communities in which it operates, wherever they are in the world, and its contribution takes on a number of forms. At the Group level BOC supports a variety of programmes broadly aligned with the nature of the business.
Key themes are: the environment; education; medical research; the arts. At the local level BOC encourages a range of volunteering, donation and sponsorship programmes, guided from the centre but ultimately decided and implemented at country, business unit and site levels. The choice of charitable donations is devolved through matched giving schemes.

Community targets:
The BOC Foundation aims to contribute half a per cent of UK pre-tax profits to environmental projects every year.
BOC’s charitable donation target is to qualify each year for the PerCent Club standard i.e. donate a minimum of one per cent of UK pre-tax profit to charity. More information

The arts

The fourth BOC Emerging Artist Award, created to support promising young artists in the UK, was won by photographer Justin Coombes, a graduate of Goldsmiths College, University of London. The £20,000 award is designed to cover a year's studio rental and materials, a travel bursary and the costs of a London-based exhibition at the end of the award period. Five other artists were awarded £1,000 each as runners-up.
